A Prayer for Courage When Fear Surrounds Us | Your Daily Prayer

Fear can feel overpowering—especially when circumstances press in, when we live in places that feel unsafe, or when anxiety has had time to settle in. But, as we reflect in our daily prayer and devotional, Scripture doesn’t leave us defenseless. In this devotional, Vivian Bricker reminds us that God is with us even when fear seems to surround us. Though we often don’t see His hand at work, God is always moving behind the scenes—striking down evil, guarding us, and providing strength. Even when fear grips our hearts, we can choose to turn to Him, surrender our anxieties at His feet, and let His peace guard our minds (Philippians 4:6–7). Moses’ charge to Israel in Deuteronomy 31:6 still rings for us today: “Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God goes with you.” We don’t face life’s dangers alone. He never leaves us. With this promise, our fear can be met with courage rooted not in our own power, but in the faithful presence of God. Today's Bible Reading: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” — Deuteronomy 31:6 Key Takeaways God is always present—even in the darkest moments—and never abandons us. Fear doesn’t need to control us; we can bring it to God in prayer. True courage comes from trusting that God is greater than our threats. The promise in Scripture is not that trouble won’t come, but that we won’t face it alone. Let’s Pray Together Dear God, fear surrounds me and uncertainty abounds. Thank You that You are here with me. Please strengthen my heart to be strong and courageous. Remind me that You will never leave me or forsake me. Help me surrender my fear to You and cling to Your steadfast love and protection. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

What is the meaning of the prayer “Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep”?

Where did the prayer “Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep” come from? The beloved bedtime prayer “Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep” first appeared in The New England Primer in the 1700s. It was used to teach children how to pray and trust God before resting each night. Though simple, it carries deep biblical roots — inspired by Psalm 4:8: “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” 00:00 – 00:35 The timeless beauty of “Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep” 00:36 – 00:59 Where the prayer originated and who wrote it 01:00 – 02:14 The Bible verses behind the prayer 02:15 – 3:25 How this prayer teaches trust in God 03:26 – 4:55 Modern uses and its lasting message of peace What is the original version of “Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep”? “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.” This short rhyme helped generations of families center their hearts on God’s protection and eternal care. What Bible verse is ‘Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep’ based on? While not a direct quote from Scripture, the prayer draws from multiple verses about God’s protection and peace, including Psalm 4:8, Psalm 121:7, and 1 Thessalonians 5:10. Each reminds believers that even in rest — and in death — their souls are kept safe in God’s hands. Is ‘Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep’ a Catholic prayer? The prayer isn’t exclusively Catholic; it’s been used by Christians of many traditions. Its simple wording and childlike faith make it universal, reflecting the heart of Matthew 18:3, where Jesus says we must have faith like a child to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Where did the bedtime prayer come from? The bedtime prayer tradition began in early Christian households and was formalized in colonial America. Parents encouraged children to pray nightly as a way to build faith, gratitude, and peace before sleep. Over time, this prayer spread across denominations and continents. What is the meaning of the prayer “Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep”? It’s a confession of trust — an acknowledgment that God alone preserves and protects our souls. In a world filled with uncertainty, it reminds believers to release their worries to God and rest in His peace, just as Jesus taught in Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Why do we teach children this prayer? Because it’s more than words — it’s a way to teach faith. Children learn that prayer isn’t about ritual, but relationship. It helps them begin and end their day with gratitude, humility, and hope in Christ’s eternal love. 🕯️ Related Scripture: Psalm 4:8 Psalm 121:7–8 Matthew 11:28 1 Thessalonians 5:10 Music from #Uppbeat https://uppbeat.io/t/nicolas-kluzek/s... A Prayer to Be a Witness Amid the Shadows | Your Daily Prayer

In a world shadowed by tragedy, violence, and loss, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed by darkness. As our daily prayer and devotional remind us, when natural disasters, injustice, or senseless suffering fill the news, we can begin to wonder what difference one person can make. Yet Scripture reminds us that even in the darkest seasons, God’s people are called to shine His light. Sophia Bricker reflects on recent real-world tragedies like the flooding from Hurricane Helene, where devastation and hope existed side by side. Amid heartbreak, volunteers, ministries, and churches showed up—feeding, clothing, and comforting those in need. Their acts of love became living testimonies of God’s presence amid pain. Jesus calls us to be like lamps set on a hill (Matthew 5:16), shining brightly for all to see. Our faith is not meant to be hidden but lived out through compassionate action, forgiveness, and sacrificial love. When we live honorably among others—especially in times of crisis—we reveal the heart of our Savior. Even when the world mocks or misunderstands us, our lives can testify to the hope and peace found only in Christ. Being a witness amid the shadows means being willing to enter the hard places, to sit with the hurting, to forgive those who offend, and to love those who seem unlovable. This is how the light of Christ pushes back the darkness—through ordinary believers who let their faith shine through daily acts of obedience and grace. Today's Bible Verse: "Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.” – 1 Peter 2:12, NLT Key Takeaways Our actions and attitudes can draw others to Christ, even when our words fall short. True light shines brightest in dark places—times of crisis often reveal God’s people at work. Living honorably and loving sacrificially are powerful testimonies of the gospel. Every good work and every act of compassion points back to Jesus, the Light of the World. Let’s Pray Together Lord of all, You see the brokenness and sorrow in our world. Thank You for sending Jesus, the Light who drives out all darkness. Help me to reflect Your love and compassion to others, even when it’s hard. Teach me to serve selflessly, to love deeply, and to walk in Your ways so that others might see You through my life. Let my light shine brightly for Your glory until the day You make all things new. In Jesus’ name, Amen. A Prayer to Remember God's Faithfulness This Fall | Your Daily Prayer

When the seasons shift—especially from the vibrancy of summer to the stillness of fall—it can remind us of life’s own changes: loss, renewal, and waiting. In our daily prayer and devotional, Alicia Searl beautifully points us back to a truth we can depend on no matter what season we’re in: God is always faithful. We often wrestle with questions like, “What does it mean that God is faithful?” or “Am I faithful enough to Him?” But Scripture makes it clear that God’s faithfulness is not dependent on our performance—it’s rooted in His perfect, unchanging character. From Genesis to Revelation, His Word reveals that He never leaves, never breaks His promises, and never wavers in His love for His people. When life feels uncertain, we can look back at the way God has carried His people—Israel delivered from Egypt, the fulfillment of His promises through Jesus, and His ongoing presence through the Holy Spirit. His faithfulness extends from generation to generation (Psalm 100:5). Just as He sustained His people in the past, He will sustain us now. Fall invites us to slow down and reflect—to notice God’s fingerprints in both the falling leaves and the steadfast truth that He never changes. In this season, may we find comfort in His promises and gratitude for His unwavering faithfulness. Today's Bible Reading "Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments." – Deuteronomy 7:9 Key Takeaways God’s faithfulness is a cornerstone of His character—He cannot be anything but faithful. His covenant love continues through generations, no matter our changing circumstances. Remembering God’s past faithfulness strengthens our trust in His future promises. Every season, including the difficult ones, is a reminder of His unbroken presence and care. Let’s Pray Together O God, thank You for being faithful in every season. When my heart grows weary or doubts arise, remind me of Your steadfast love and promises. Help me to see Your hand at work, even when I can’t understand the path ahead. Reveal Your faithfulness to me in new ways this fall, and teach me to rest in the peace of knowing that You never fail. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Deconstruction vs. Truth: Why God’s Word Still Wins

Lord, I’m Tired and Ready for Change | Your Nightly Prayer

Winter is often the season we associate with barrenness, both in nature and in our lives. But as tonight's prayer and devotional remind us, any season can leave us feeling drained, as if we are stuck in our circumstances and cycles of thinking. Summer is equally capable of making our souls feel empty, especially if the months did not go as planned or we are in a phase of waiting on God. Our hope wanes alongside the decreasing days of summer. If we are exhausted at the end of this season, we need rest. This might seem counterintuitive, since for many, the natural urge is to jump into action and deliberate on how to fix circumstances and change life's trajectory. Yet, we can do the most by doing the seemingly “least” – laying our concerns at the feet of our Lord (1 Peter 5:7). He has promised us rest when we come to Him, and that is what our soul needs in this time – not more frantic searching for answers or plans. Sometimes, though, we must remind our souls of this necessity if we are to find renewal. The Psalmists often did this in their prayers to the Lord and rallied their souls to attentiveness. For instance, after encountering a sickness that almost led to death, one Psalmist wrote, “Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you” (Psalm 116:7, NIV). Sometimes, we need a reminder to speak to ourselves and encourage our souls to find hope in God (see also Psalm 43:5). It can be easy to forget about the Lord’s love and goodness during a time of desolation. Let us, then, take all our burdens to Christ tonight, confiding in Him about our weariness and feelings of being stuck. He can lift the weight of worry from our shoulders and give us the rest we so desperately need. Yes, our souls may need a little nudging. But we will find refreshment when we lean into the strong arms of our Savior. TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” - Matthew 11:28 YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER Lord, I’m tired and ready for change. The end of this summer has left me feeling as if I am stuck in place and that nothing will ever change in my life, including my thoughts and feelings of hopelessness. These situations are too much for me, God. And I bring them to You tonight because nothing is too big or difficult for You. Take these burdens; I lay them down now at Your feet, and I grasp the promise of rest found in You, Jesus. That is what I yearn for most of all. Yes, my soul, find rest in your Savior. Amen. THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON 1. A time when you carried something heavy. What was it, and how did it make you feel when you finally set it down? How might you incorporate this image when you think about resting in Christ from your burdens? 2. The story of someone in the Bible who felt “stuck” in life, such as Naomi (Ruth 1-4) or Hannah (1 Samuel 1). Is there a certain part of their lives that encourages you in this season? 3. Words from someone (written or spoken) that strengthened your hope in the past. What were these words, and how might remembering them renew your faith today? Consider telling yourself this truth in Psalmist fashion by addressing your soul: “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits” (Psalm 103:2, NIV).

How To Clear The Ledger of Grace

How To Clear The Ledger of Grace - A devotional on Luke 14–16 exploring forgiveness, restoration, and the Prodigal Son through personal testimony and biblical truth.

Grace for the Goals You Didn't Reach | Your Nightly Prayer

We all know what it’s like to set goals and fall short. Maybe it was a promise to change a habit, to eat healthier, to save more, or to spend more time in prayer and Scripture—and despite your best intentions, you didn’t make it. In our evening prayer and devotional, Clarence Haynes Jr. reminds us that God’s grace meets us right in those moments of disappointment and self-doubt. His grace isn’t just what saves us—it’s what sustains us, especially when our best efforts fail. Like Paul, we learn that God’s power shines brightest in our weakness. The same grace that redeemed us is the grace that carries us when we stumble. God never measures your worth by your performance or perfection. He sees your heart, your desire to grow, and your willingness to get up and try again. When you fall short, grace doesn’t scold you—it lifts you. It reminds you that even when your plans remain unfinished, God’s purpose in you is still unfolding. Progress, not perfection, is what He desires. Every small step forward is still a step in faith. So tonight, if you’re reflecting on the goals you didn’t reach or the habits you didn’t break, rest in this truth: God’s grace fills every gap. His strength is made perfect right where yours runs out. Tonight’s Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV) “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 🔗 Read more on BibleStudyTools.com 🙏 Your Nightly Prayer Lord, Thank You for Your grace that never runs dry. When I fall short, remind me that You never do. Help me to stop measuring my worth by what I’ve achieved and start seeing myself through the lens of Your mercy. Teach me to depend on Your strength, not my own, and to trust that Your grace is sufficient for every weakness I face. Even when I don’t meet my goals, I know that You are still at work within me, perfecting what I cannot. In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🧘 Three Things to Meditate Upon Grace Over Goals: Where in your life are you relying on your own strength instead of God’s grace? How might surrendering those areas bring you peace? Progress, Not Perfection: Think of one goal you didn’t meet this year. Instead of focusing on what you didn’t achieve, list the growth and lessons you gained in the process. Strength in Weakness: Meditate on this truth: God’s power is made perfect in your weakness. How might this change the way you view your struggles or setbacks? 📣 Calls to Action 🌿 Reflect tonight on a goal you didn’t reach. Thank God for His grace that carried you through the effort and the lessons learned along the way. 💬 Share this devotion with someone who feels defeated or disappointed in themselves. Sam’s Club Employee Steals the Show with Epic Dance Moves

Get a glimpse of real-life fun happening in a store and prepare to dance-along to a classic hit song. A Sam’s Club employee steals the show with epic dance moves.

If you are in the mood for some Earth, Wind, and Fire, get ready because this video highlights “Let’s Groove” as a man goes through Sam’s Club during a normal day to invite others to a dance party. You see a fun young man in a sweatshirt that says, “Rockstar Dist” with sunglasses, dancing in the middle of the giant store. The camera quickly turns the opposite direction, and an employee is joining in on the fun and getting his own groove on.

The young man filming jumps over to the employee, where a crowd of a variety of ages gathers around. They do a dance together unexpectedly, and then as the employee moves on to his job, the dancer continues on with a huge smile on his face. This worker made his day by joining in on the fun.

As the dancing guy moves through the shoppers, we see him get a variety of responses from customers. Some dance with him, and others quickly get out of the way to keep on their shopping missions.

Regardless of the reaction, everyone this man encounters ends up with a big smile on their face. Out of all Sam’s shoppers, the employee really shines. He has style, swag, and great dance moves. He and the young man have a blast.

You will love that they are not concerned about what everyone else thinks about them; they are focused on enjoying the moment and letting loose. Sometimes in life, we can become so consumed with the opinions of others that we forget that Jesus invites us to “dance” with Him and stay rooted in our identity in Him. May this short clip remind you to dance today.

"You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. LORD my God, I will praise you forever.” Psalm 30:11-12

Sweet Moment Chick-fil-A Employee Connects with Child with Hearing Impairment

A Chick-fil-A employee had a sweet moment with a young boy with a hearing impairment. Grab the tissues before watching this clip because you'll need them. It's a heartwarming interaction that will pull at your heartstrings. Watch the short but powerful clip to see the precious moment between the Chick-fil-A staff member and the little boy.

Kindness and empathy are two things that are sorely lacking in our world today. We are in short supply of both. The evidence for this can be seen nearly everywhere you look. On popular social media platforms, people regularly respond to one another with hatred, hostility and a barrage of unrepeatable names. Those 24-hour cable "news" channels are basically nothing more than hours of people incessantly screaming at one another.

But what would happen if we were all a little kinder to one another? Or if we exhibited a little empathy now and then and put ourselves in someone else's shoes for a minute? How would our world change for the better? Things would probably improve considerably. A clip posted on YouTube shows what happens when someone takes the time to show someone else a little bit of kindness and love.

In the video, a little boy with a hearing impairment is in a Chick-fil-A touching a menu, but he's soon interrupted. A woman gets his attention, instructing him to look at the employee behind the counter. Once the boy focuses on the employee, the staff member asks the young man his name while using American Sign Language (ASL).

The little boy responds to the employee by signing back his name. The video's text indicates that this is the first time the young man signed his name using ASL.

It may have been a small move, but that employee's kindness likely meant the world to the little guy. It's a moment that will probably stay with him for a long time.

Ephesians 4:32 "And be kind to one another, full of pity, having forgiveness for one another, even as God in Christ had forgiveness for you."

A Prayer to Stand Firm in a Culture of Darkness | Your Daily Prayer

Darkness has always been part of life on this side of eternity, but today’s culture can make it feel overwhelming. In our daily prayer and devotional, we remember that the constant flood of sin, confusion, and moral compromise can tempt us to feel powerless or afraid. Peyton Garland reminds us, however, that the call to stand firm is not new—and that our strength doesn’t come from ourselves, but from the Lord. Ephesians 6 urges believers to “put on the full armor of God,” a vivid picture of spiritual preparation. Just as Roman soldiers equipped themselves daily for battle, we must clothe ourselves in truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation—anchored by the Word of God and prayer. These are not abstract ideas but divine defenses against the lies and schemes of the enemy. Our world calls evil good and celebrates darkness as enlightenment, but we are called to live differently. To speak truth in love. To stand firm when others compromise. To shine Christ’s light into every space we inhabit—our homes, workplaces, and communities. Darkness cannot drive out light; it disappears when light is present. Standing firm in God’s armor doesn’t mean living in fear or anger—it means living with courage, love, and unwavering trust in the God who has already secured the victory. Today's Bible Reading: "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes." – Ephesians 6:10-11 (NIV) Key Takeaways The spiritual battles we face require divine strength—our power comes from the Lord, not ourselves. The armor of God equips us to resist temptation, fear, and cultural compromise. Truth, righteousness, faith, and prayer are our daily weapons against spiritual darkness. Light always overcomes darkness—Christ’s presence in us pushes back the enemy’s schemes. Let’s Pray Together Father, thank You for giving us Your armor to protect and strengthen us in this dark world. Forgive us when we neglect the tools You’ve provided. Help us to stand firm in truth, to walk in righteousness, and to speak with love and boldness. Remind us that darkness cannot overcome Your light. Fill us with courage to reflect Your glory in a world that desperately needs You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Prayer to Imitate Christ | Your Daily Prayer

Children learn by imitation—and as God’s children, we’re called to do the same. In today’s devotional and prayer, Emily Rose Massey reminds us that following Christ means reflecting His love, compassion, and holiness in our daily lives. Just as children copy the ones they love and trust, we are invited to model our hearts and actions after Jesus, the ultimate example of selfless love. He “gave Himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” True imitation begins not with perfection, but with abiding in His presence, learning from His Word, and walking in love even when it costs us something. As we spend time with God and surround ourselves with other believers, we become more like Him—transformed by His Spirit, shaped by His truth, and empowered to live with humility and grace. Every act of love, forgiveness, and faithfulness becomes a fragrant offering of worship to the Lord. Let today’s prayer help you rediscover what it means to imitate Christ, one loving step at a time. 📜 Today's Bible Reading Ephesians 5:1–2 (ESV) “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” 🙏 Your Daily Prayer Heavenly Father, Thank You for saving me and calling me to walk in Your love. Help me to imitate Christ in every area of my life—my words, actions, and thoughts. Strengthen me to live with humility, grace, and boldness for Your glory. Surround me with believers who encourage me to walk faithfully and remind me to fix my eyes on Jesus, the perfect example of love and obedience. In His name I pray, Amen. 🧭 Key Takeaways We are called to imitate God by walking in love, just as Christ loved and sacrificed for us. True imitation begins with abiding in Christ and being transformed by His Spirit. Surround yourself with mentors and believers who model Christlike living. Every act of selfless love becomes a fragrant offering of worship to God.
